What’s at stake if the acquisition is approved:

Your electric bill could get even higher.

NextEra has a troubling history of rate hikes. The current proposal doesn’t protect Virginians from skyrocketing electric bills after NextEra’s promised credits run out.

Virginia’s clean energy wins could be jeopardized.

Nothing in the current proposal ensures that NextEra will not obstruct our progress towards a more reliable, affordable, and clean energy system. NextEra’s heavy reliance on fossil fuels to power data centers would threaten transformative energy legislation passed by Governor Spanberger this year.

Data center burdens could increase.

This deal explicitly puts data center growth first. Virginia needs a utility that prioritizes local regulations and residential ratepayers over profits.

Political corruption in Virginia.

Allowing this deal as written opens the door to massive corporate influence in Virginia. NextEra spent over $126 million on lobbying between 2010 and 2025 — double Dominion’s total. Virginians deserve a clear guarantee that this history won’t repeat itself here.
