SUN Annual Report shows what gets done when there’s more to do
- Solar United Neighbors
It’s been nearly 20 since my friend Walter and I asked our parents about going solar. From the beginning, Walter and I, even at 12 years old, saw there’s more we could do.
Looking out from our rooftops we could see all the way down our block and across the neighborhood of Mt Pleasant. We saw there wasn’t much shading. The roofs were flat and all facing south. This made them great for solar. If we were going solar, our neighbors should too. There’s more we could do, so we did. We went to our neighbors homes and got more people interested in solar. The original Mt Pleasant Solar Co-op helped 45 families save money and cut their carbon foot-print by going solar.
It’s this spirit that led to the creation of Solar United Neighbors (SUN). What started as a neighborhood initiative has now helped more than 12,000 families install solar. Still, there’s more we’ve done.
That’s why I’m sharing SUN’s 2025 annual report. It captures some of the things we’ve done to help more people go solar, join together, and fight for their energy rights. You’ll learn how SUN is:
- Organizing for solar in rural Indiana
- Leading a campaign to create Virtual Power Plants across the country
- Advancing solar access in income-qualified communities
I encourage you to read through it and get inspired by the things people from many walks of life are doing to create a more sustainable world and economy. I hope it inspires you to take action yourself and find what you can do.
