Beagio’s Pizza in Kingston, Michigan, is a restaurant, bar, and event venue owned and operated by Bill Heron. Beagio’s installed a 40.5-kilowatt (kW) roof-mounted solar array in 2024 thanks to financial support from the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC). These federal incentives were crucial to the business moving forward with the project.

Lindy’s Sales – MI

Lisa Valentine’s family has run Lindy’s Sales, a boat and ATV dealership, for over 50 years. Lisa is a solar homeowner and had considered installing solar at the business since taking over from her parents 6 years ago. Learning they were eligible for grant funding through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) made the idea a reality. Supported by REAP and the solar investment tax credit (ITC) they installed a 22-kilowatt array in August 2024.

Justin McClellan owns and operates JDM Farms, a poultry farm he established in 2010. Chicken farming is energy-intensive—Justin’s annual energy costs can reach $80,000. To reduce this fixed expense and ensure the ongoing success of his business, he made the transition to solar energy in 2023. Justin’s adoption of solar energy was made possible by the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and the federal solar investment tax credit. Through these programs, he has managed to reduce his energy costs by 50 percent.
