What is community solar?

Community, or shared, solar makes it possible for anyone with an electric bill to access solar energy, even if they can’t put it where they live.

With community solar, you can purchase or lease a “share” in a community solar project or start a project with your neighbors. Every month, you receive a credit on your electricity bill for the energy produced by your share.

For residents or business owners who do not have a suitable site for solar or are not interested in having solar on their property, community solar or solar gardens are a great alternative option. Community solar is a larger array paid for with multiple subscribers who purchase a portion of power from it and receive a credit for the electricity produced on their electric bill.

Colorado is a national leader of community solar projects and many more in development. (source)
