It is a win-win situation…Solar is a wonderful complement to diversifying the nation’s and individual electricity user’s energy supply sources.

Frances – MD

Why did you decide to go solar?

We installed solar panels on our roof in 2005 and solar hot water shortly thereafter. We started subscribing to community solar in early 2022.

What was the process like for you? Did anything surprise you, or were there challenges you had to overcome?

Our solar installers took care of all permits and other related paperwork, it was a pleasant experience.

Have any of your habits changed since going solar?

We have always been mindful of energy efficiency in our daily practices but yes, we also drive hybrid cars – since 2000 (Honda Insight 2000 and Toyota Prius 2013). We also use solar and wind to dry our laundry the old fashioned way by hanging it outside to dry. I believe it is this mindset that encouraged us to go solar rather than solar driving us to implement other energy saving practices.

Have you seen electricity savings since going solar? If so, what have you been able to do with that savings?

Solar savings convinced us to persuade others to have solar + battery storage installed at my mom’s house AND subscribe to community solar.

Have you been involved in any solar advocacy since becoming a solar owner?

Yes, I was fortunate to apply for and be hired to work for a solar company in 2005 and have worked happily ever since. This position not only allows me but requires me to be a solar advocate!

What advice would you give to someone considering going solar?

It is a win-win situation. Community solar really is the ultimate solution for those who are unable or don’t want to install solar in their own homes. Solar is a wonderful complement to diversifying the nation’s and individual electricity user’s energy supply sources. No reason not to participate in the clean energy economy.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Almost 20 years of using solar energy to supplement (or be primary source of) our electricity needs/ no regrets.
