Solar and battery application

Power Up! Ellis County

Application for nonprofits and small businesses

As part of a grant, SUN  is providing solar and battery storage systems to qualifying nonprofits and small businesses within Ellis county. The goal is to help nonprofits and small businesses lower their electric bills and keep the lights on during a power outage.

The number of awardees will depend on funding availability, but all applicants will be informed of whether they are awarded, in the queue for potential funding, or denied. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Only small businesses or non-profit organizations that submit a proposal by the deadline above will be eligible for the program.

Application requirements

Before submitting a proposal, applicants are strongly encouraged to check on the following documentation:

  1. proof of non-profit or small business status;
  2. proof of ownership of the facility intended to receive the solar + battery storage system or written approval from owner to apply with long-term lease documentation
  3. proof of services rendered to the community. These documents will support eligibility for the program.

Proposals that do not meet pass/fail requirements will be determined ineligible or non-competitive. SUN will review all submitted proposals to determine if applications meet the pass/fail eligibility requirements. Only applications that meet all pass/fail eligibility requirements will proceed to the evaluation stage.

Entities will be notified whether their application has passed the mandatory pass/fail evaluation criteria.  All applications that pass the initial filter will be reviewed and scored by the Community Advisory Committee (CAC), composed of Ellis County community leaders and residents, they will select three finalists.

Finalists will receive a site visit by the installer to determine if the facility’s electrical infrastructure can take on a solar and battery storage system. This assessment will also determine  what upgrades, if any, would be needed. The CAC will make a final decision based on the installer’s report/assessment, and the recipient will then be informed of the decision.

Applicants will be kept up to date on funding decisions and the estimated award/project timeline throughout the process.
