Stop NV Energy’s Attack on Solar!

Last chance to speak up!

Final consumer sessions: August 2025

NV Energy has filed a controversial rate case that would slash solar compensation and raise electricity rates for Nevada families. The final consumer sessions this August are your last chance to be heard before the Public Utility Commission of Nevada makes its decision.

What NV Energy is proposing

The end of net metering: NV Energy wants to replace monthly net metering with “15-minute netting” – which is essentially no netting at all. Instead of balancing your solar production against your usage over a full month, you’d only get credit for excess energy within each 15-minute window at just 75% of retail rates. This would be devastating for the economics of solar since under 15-minute netting, you can’t bank daytime production to offset evening usage.

While existing solar users would be exempt from the change, they still face other harmful provisions in this rate case – and should fight back because more solar benefits everyone through grid resilience, job creation, and energy independence for Nevadans.

For Northern Nevadan customers: Northern Nevada solar customers would face the devastating shift from monthly to 15-minute netting, which will dramatically reduce the value of their solar systems and increase their electric bills.

For Southern Nevada customers: Southern Nevada customers would get hit even harder with a triple threat of harmful changes:

  • 15-minute netting (effectively no netting)
  • New demand charges that penalize you for using electricity when you need it most
  • Overall rate increases that make electricity more expensive across the board

The impact

If NV Energy’s proposed changes are accepted, existing solar customers will see higher bills despite their solar investments, and more families will find solar unaffordable and inaccessible going forward.

This comes while NV Energy executives make headlines for asking ratepayers to fund their limousines and luxury conferences.

Your voice is needed now

Solar United Neighbors has fought these proposals all summer alongside our supporters and our partners – you’ve shown up at hearings, made your voices heard, and stood up for fair electricity rates and fair solar credit. This is the final push – tell the PUCN how high bills and harmful utility actions have impacted you – including financial hardship, difficulty affording basic necessities, or frustration with utility mismanagement. Your personal story matters.
