Why did you decide to go solar?
I am a lifetime environmentalist and a FEMA Staffer. I know that our Climate has changed and the Global warming is due to burning fossil fuels, oil, coal, fracked gas and wood. Climate disasters are more frequent and more severe. We must change our ways to save our planet and all creatures on it. Going solar was a no-brainer to be part of the solution on a personal level. I love my solar panels and the free energy they produce. In another 5 years they will have paid for themselves and I will have over 20 years of free energy. Many thanks to the co-op program to help get me a high quality system at a good price.
What was the process like for you? Did anything surprise you, or were there challenges you had to overcome?
No, the program and installation went very smoothly and efficiently.
Have any of your habits changed since going solar?
I have been driving a hybrid vehicle for 10 years as one of my first steps to reduce pollution that I produce personally.
Have you seen electricity savings since going solar? If so, what have you been able to do with that savings?
I’ve been saving energy long before going solar. One of my favorites is I put an electric switch on my water heater. I turn it on for 5 minutes once or twice a day, which suffice for my hot water needs.
What advice would you give to someone considering going solar?
Just do it. As long as you have a good location with open sunshine, it is a great investment as it pays for itself and it’s the right thing to do.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Almost 20 years of using solar energy to supplement (or be primary source of) our electricity needs/ no regrets.
