About us

Solar United Neighbors (SUN) is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to creating a clean, equitable, resilient energy system that benefits everyone. We help people go solar, join together, and fight for their energy rights. Our organization is growing, and we are looking for Marketing/Communications (Marcomm) Fellows to join our team for a 12-month fellowship!

About the Fellowship

We are seeking up to four (4) Fellows to support the solar advocacy and education work.

The Fellow(s) will support our team the day-to-day implementation of Marcomm programming. This includes:

  • Copywriting
  • Graphic design
  • Videography
  • Social media management
  • Content calendar management
  • Project management

The selected applicants must have strong written and verbal communication skills, be comfortable working with Microsoft office and Google docs, be able to multi-task, and be organized and detail oriented in their work. They should also be comfortable self-managing their efforts working on short and long-term projects and have an upbeat attitude with a willingness to work on various high priority projects as they arise. Selected applicants must have their own computer to work on throughout the fellowship.

This is a 15 to 20 hour (flexible) per week fellowship intended for a minimum of 9 and up to 12 months. Fellows may obtain college credit for this program or may opt for a living wage equivalent stipend ($1,500 per month). Work hours can be flexible. All SUN fellowships are remote. Fellows are also welcome to join us at our offices in Washington, D.C. (near Dupont Circle). This opportunity is open to people of all educational backgrounds and work experience levels who are U.S. residents. For candidates without a high school diploma, some previous work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of external communications to recruit new participants into solar co-ops, including email blasts, social media posts, and press releases.
  • Developing graphic and video content to explain and promote our work.
  • Utilizing our digital asset management tool and helping the entire organization benefit from our great digital resources.
  • Writing and editing website content, including blog posts.

We have several roles to fill, so if your experience doesn’t match all of these, that’s fine!

How to apply

Please submit your resume, a statement of interest, and one example of your work (this could be a writing sample, graphic, or video you’ve created) to fellows@solarunitedneighbors.org and include “MarComm Fellow” in the subject line.
